Viscont White Granite in Cayce, SC

Viscont White granite made its way into a sideboard in Cayce, and it's a sharp choice for a piece that gets used every day but still needs to look good doing it. This is a granite with a light background and movement of gray and burgundy tones scattered through it, so it reads clean and bright without being flat. In a sideboard, that kind of visual interest matters. You're not hiding it behind a stove or under upper cabinets. It's on display.

Granite works hard in a spot like this. It's dense, it's heat resistant, and it shrugs off the daily wear of dishes going down, glasses set out for a party, whatever gets stacked there on a Tuesday. Viscont White in particular has enough consistency in the background that it doesn't fight with the room around it, but enough natural variation that no two slabs look the same. That's the nature of granite. It's quarried stone, not a printed pattern, so what you get is real movement that catches the light differently depending on where you stand.

Templating a sideboard top isn't the same job as a full kitchen, but it still takes the same care. We measure it tight, we account for the wall behind it, and we make sure the edge sits right. On this one we went with an eased edge, which is a clean, simple line that lets the stone itself do the talking instead of the profile.

Day to day, a granite sideboard top like this is about as low maintenance as stone gets. Sealed properly, it resists staining, and it'll take a hot dish straight off the stove without blinking. It's the kind of surface you stop thinking about because it just holds up.

We do a lot of this work around the Midlands, and Cayce is right in our backyard. Jobs like this one are a reminder that stone isn't just for kitchens and baths. A sideboard done right in Viscont White granite becomes a piece of furniture that outlasts whatever sits on top of it.
